OLIVE SQUALANE: AN EXCELLENT ANTI-AGING OIL FOR ALL SKIN TYPES

Did You Know Olive Squalane Can Boost Elasticity & Hydrate Your Skin? ..Here's how

SKIN IDENTICAL

The key to squalane's skincare success is that it's skin-identical.  Squalane is a naturally occurring ingredient our skin already uses.  Of all the ingredients found within the skin's sebum, squalane makes up around 13%.  But, as we age this percentage decreases.

OLIVE SQUALANE IS A BOTANICAL LIPID THAT MIRRORS HUMAN LIPIDS IN MOLECULAR STRUCTURE AND WEIGHT.

This similarity allows it to penetrate the skin completely and synthesise quickly - (at 2mm per second) making it a great delivery system for other ingredients.

So, How Does This Help My Skin?

REPLENISHING

Our skin uses squalane to form the skins barrier function, the outermost layer of our skin which behaves as a super-barrier between us and the outside world.  It performs a number of vital skin protective and enhancing duties.

When the skins protective barrier is damaged our skin can become dry and feel tight as it is unable to retain its natural moisture levels.  This also leaves us vulnerable to environmental pollutants and the aging effects of free radical damage.

BY ADDING SKIN IDENTICAL SQUALANE TO OUR DAILY BEAUTY REGIME WE ARE REPLENISHING OUR SKIN WITH VITAL INGREDIENTS IT ALREADY USES.

By helping the skin retain water and protect against moisture loss it improves skin suppleness and elasticity, visibly plumping the skin and reducing fine lines.

At Its Core, Olive Squalane Is Made From The Same Building Blocks As Our Skin

Nicknamed 'Natures Facelift' olive squalane is unlike any other oil, in fact, it feels more like a serum with it's clear, colourless, odourless and lightweight consistency.

One of the many benefits of olive squalane is that it is non-comedogenic, which means it is a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil that won't clog pores or leave a greasy residue. Making it great for oily and acne-prone skin types.

ANOTHER KEY TO SQUALANES SUCCESS IS POWERFUL ANTIOXIDANTS THAT PROTECT THE BODY FROM FREE RADICALS THAT DESTROY SKIN CELLS AND DAMAGE THE SKINS NATURAL COLLAGEN.

These antioxidants also protect against UV damage preventing hyper-pigmentation the formation of age spots.

How I Use Olive Squalane

I've been using olive squalane for about two years now.  At first, I used it on its own, which worked amazing.  I applied it morning and night under my face oils or creams.  It's so light and absorbs quickly leaving my skin so soft!

Olive Squalane is a great addition to your skincare regime all by itself. But, because of its clever ability to penetrate the skin completely and synthesise quickly, it makes it a great delivery system for other ingredients.  So I started adding a few essential oils to the mix last year.

IT TOOK ME WHILE TO GET THE CORRECT ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND FOR MY SKIN. THE QUALITY OF ESSENTIAL OIL IS EVERYTHING! USE ONLY ORGANIC OR WILDCRAFTED.

I love Facetheory's Olive Squalane - 60ml for £13.  It comes in an amber glass dropper bottle that I recycle for other DIY's.  If you're on a budget, this is a must as it lasts for ages too!

Essential Oils For Skin Health

Adding essential oils to the mix can be highly beneficial for aging skin.

Certain essential oils have powerful antioxidant properties and are superior in the field of anti-aging. It's worth researching all the different oils to find the right blend for your skin type. The Complete Book of Essential Oils &Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood is a great place to start. There are just so many other uses for essential oils other than skin health.. Nature really does have a cure for everything.

There Are So Many other uses For Essential Oils.. Nature Really Does Have A Cure For Everything

Essential oils can be dangerous if used improperly, so important to do your research and follow the correct dilution ratio.

Sometimes serums pumped full of vitamin C, peptides and other anti-aging ingredients can be too harsh for my sensitive skin..  Especially now that I'm micro-needling my skin. This is why I tend to make a lot of my own skincare.

I use a 1% dilution and I do not use the same essential oil blend every time I make this serum, I switch up them up all the time. Some other oils known for their powerful anti-aging properties are neroli, helichrysumsandalwood, carrot seed, bergamot, rose damascena and jasmine.

Quick tip: I've started using this gentle anti-aging serum immediately after I Derma Roll.

SYNERGISTIC BLEND OF ANTI-AGING ESSENTIAL OILS

Frankincense Essential Oil is one of the best anti-aging ingredients in nature.  It has the ability to speed up the skin cell regeneration process,  replacing old, damaged or dying cells with healthy, new ones, while preserving existing cells.  This, in turn, helps to even out skin tone, reducing acne scars and sunspots.  When you combine this quality with its ability to lift and strengthen the skin, improving tone and elasticity you have a very potent anti-aging ingredient in your hands.

Cypress Essential Oil is one of my favourites due to its ability to aid in toxin removal and decrease water retention.  It has strong astringent properties, which means it can tighten and lift the skin through the contraction of skin tissues, muscles and blood vessels.
It has an amazing ability to stimulate blood flow, and when combined with Frankincense oil, circulation is enhanced bringing fresh, oxygenated blood to the surface of the skin. leading to healthy, glowing skin. These two oils synergistically restore and renew skin cells.

Lavender Essential Oil has antioxidant activity that helps to prevent and reverse oxidative stress on the body.

According to Dr Josh Axe the body's natural response to free radical damage is to create antioxidant enzymes - glutathione, catalase, superoxide dismutase (SOD) that prevent free radicals from doing their damage.  Unfortunately, the body can become deficient in antioxidants if the free radical burden is too great.  Which has become very common due to poor diet and high exposure to toxins.

A 2013 study published in Phytomedicine found that lavender oil increased the activity of the body's most powerful antioxidants - glutathione, catalase and superoxide dismutase. More recent studies have indicated similar results.

RECIPE

Repair & Replenish

Ok, so this DIY is not exactly a serum, it's a face oil that feels like a serum!

It can help skin heal and repair itself from the sun and environmental damage. At the same time boosting elasticity and hydrating the skin, preventing moisture loss.

I apply it after cleansing and toning at night. I do not use this oil in the morning because some essential oils can be photosensitive.

And it's just so easy and economical,  no jars or bottles are needed, no mixing, melting or whipping involved.  All you have to do is take the lid off the Olive Squalane and add your essential oils.  Done!
